Revised 12/21The Occupy Atlanta Action Committee held a meeting on Wednesday 12/21 and agreed to adopt a new internal process as explained below.Action Committee will hold a meeting every Tuesday at 6 pm. The meeting will be held in Woodruff Park unless stated otherwise on the website and posted on social media sites, and email lists. This meeting will take place solely to propose possible actions that Occupy Atlanta will endorse and/or plan. Each proposal will be brought to the committee, discussed, and then a call will be made for consensus. We will be following the 9/10ths consensus model that the general assembly currently uses. If a proposed action reaches consensus, then planning meetings will be set to work on planning that action. If the proposal is blocked, then it will be tabled. Planning meetings will occur throughout the week to make sure the necessary steps are being taken to plan and promote our actions. Proposals can be submitted to action@occupyatlanta.org and will be addressed in the order that they were recieved.
In the event that there is a time sensitive action that needs to be planned, and can’t wait until the Tuesday meeting, an emergency meeting will be held to discuss it. Every effort will be made to notify people of the emergency meeting time and place.The Occupy Atlanta Action Committee encourages autonomous action. The purpose of having actions endorsed through our committee is only for the purpose of using shared resources as outlined by the general assembly.

The Occupy movement seems to be dissatisfied with the ineffectiveness of top-down government representation. I propose that the Occupy movement officially state the belief that more effective representative government starts at the local/neighborhood/block/street level.
There is no reason why a city councilperson should be expected to represent the people of any neighborhood without the input of those people, ON EVERY ISSUE. Yes, EVERY issue. We live in an age where democracy in such a pure form is possible on the local level. We are in the information age. The blood of the Occupy Movement is the efficiency of the information age. It is entirely possible for a city councilperson to proactively & succinctly present every issue to his/her constituents, via the tools of the information age, and have those constituents return a non-binding yay or nay response, VIA THE TOOLS OF THE INFORMATION AGE. Surely someone can come up with a secure way to do this. Of course, the councilperson won\'t be obligated to vote in accordance with the majority of those he/she represents. But, it WILL make the councilpersons motivations (1%ers or 99%ers) more transparent and it will facilitate a more informed and represented 99%er.
The Occupy movement seems to be very cognizant of the effectiveness of bottom-up democratic representation. I propose that the Occupy movement strategize for such a pure democratic political process from the \"street\" level up, or proactively pursue a goal of electing those who support such a democratic movement. Who knows; if it is successful an the local level, just imagine the implications on a grander scale. One person, one vote; be they flesh & blood or corporate; 99% or 1%. Our Country.

http://occupyatlanta.org/contact-communicate/activity/p/972/ Sat, 05 Nov 2011 07:17:00 +0000 enki posted an update in the group Action Committee I propose Operation: Media Monkey.The general idea is to make it difficult for hostile media organizations to misrepresent Occupy.If you see a representative of an organization that doesn’t ”get” Occupy, get the attention of other members, surround the representative, and make it as difficult as possible for him or her to report.For example: if there’s a camera or mic, yell or shout as loudly as possible. It may be possible to sing copyrighted songs, as simple as the ”Happy Birthday” song, so that they legally can not air the footage.Another example, if such a representative begins interviewing one of our members and asking loaded questions or other such nonsense, jump in and respond using their own phrases or talking heads. For example, if they ask something ridiculous like ”Why don’t you try to get a job?” You could respond with ”I heard Rush Limbaugh is here hiring Occupiers.”We can be really creative with this one; non-sequiturs are especially great.Result: We can misrepresent Major Media just as easily as they misrepresent us.Note: keep in mind that you don’t want to commit libel or slander.I encourage you to post your thoughts in the comments.

http://occupyatlanta.org/contact-communicate/activity/p/966/ Sat, 05 Nov 2011 06:54:06 +0000 enki posted an update in the group Action Committee I propose Operation: Starve the Beast.The general idea is to disrupt the income streams of unfriendly organizations through legal means.The internet is the easiest way to start.1.) Install AdBlock, AdBlock Plus, or equivalent in your web browser.
* AdBlock for Google Chrome
* AdBlock Plus for Mozilla FireFox
* Not sure what’s available for Internet Explorer or Safari
* I believe Opera can take a list of domains to block, but there is no full-fledged plugin.Result: Once impressions and clicks drop to near-zero, marketers will be in the same situation as almost 20% of Americans.2.) Cut communication ties.
* Un-friend pages on Facebook.
* Un-follow Twitter accounts.
* Unsubscribe from email newsletters.
* Unsubscribe from text message lists.
* Sign up for the National Do Not Call List (land-lines only)Result: Similar to #1.3.) End financial ties.
* Cut up your credit and debit cards. Switch to cash if possible. The less they can track your buying habits, the better off you will be. (Or just keep the card and never use it so long as there is no maintenance fee.)
* Close your bank account and open an account with a reputable credit union.
* If you still have an account with Bank of America or similarly unfriendly institution and they are not charging you a maintenance fee, have the funds automatically transferred to your credit union account as soon as they clear.
* You can do the same with your 401k, I believe. It is my understanding that you can open a separate 401k (again, with a reputable credit union) and transfer funds from your company 401k (which is likely with an unfriendly organization) to it. As young as Occupiers are, many may not have these as they are currently unemployed – all the more reason to find one!Result: Large financial institutions are no longer as large or influential.4.) Stop buying from unprincipaled companies.
* No more iTunes.
* No more processed foods.
* No more sweatshop clothing.
* No more Netflix or Hulu, cancel your cable except for internet (it’s all a waste of time, anyway).
* Trade your car for a bike + public transit.Result: Bad products are abandoned in favor of good ones.4.) I struggle for ideas on how to get the Medical Industry’s attention.
* Traditional Medicine is no replacement for Industrial Medicine.
* But! You can report irresponsible MDs.
* File a complaint with the BBB, your insurance provider, or one of the many doctor feedback sites (e.g., ratemds.com). Keep in mind, though, you are legally responsible for your actions.Right now, these are only ideas – but they’re all legal and effective. If each of us can do them and find at least two other people to do the same, and those two people do the same, etc. we can snowball into meaningful change.I encourage you to post your thoughts in the comments.
