SaraA posted an update in the group Process Submitted to Process e-mail by Scott: The Occupy Atlanta Demands Committing Meeting of Wednesday February 29 came to consensus to bring to OA General Assembly the following statement as our current \'primary demand\': \"Remove corporate influence from politics and government.\"It is a concise statement that the demands committee believes encompasses a common point of view shared by all of Occupy Atlanta. This demand will not be our only demand, but we believe that it should be our primary demand because it is an issue that directly and indirectly affects all others. We feel that it is time-sensitive due to Senate Bill 469 which was manufactured by and for corporate interests and directly threatens the Occupy movement in the state of Georgia.

SaraA posted an update in the group Process I sent this in last Friday and have already taken amendments.The GAs should be cut down to twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays, including the \"on the road\" GAs which are held on Wednesdays once a month. To accommodate the need to attend to the business of Occupy Atlanta in a timely way, the hard deadline of two hours should be rescinded and revert back to the judgment of the facilitation team.

SaraA posted an update in the group Process It might be time to have a conversation about the role of committees in relationship to the General Assembly. Aside from the assertion that committees have autonomy in their area of responsibility, a notion which different people interpret in a wide variety of ways, we never really hammered that out. Personally, I think that committees have to be able to make decisions in order to get anything done; however, I also think they should bring matters of broad policy to the GA on a regular basis even if it\'s something they technically have authority over. The reason being that the GA as a forum and consensus as a process is best suited to just such questions, rather than nitty gritty details.People also need to realize that pushing their own agendas (whether in a committee or by manipulating the decision-making power of the General Assembly) is ultimately self-defeating. We have no power to compel anyone to do anything, and the only result of trying to impose your own will rather than using consensus to discover the group\'s will is that you will annoy everyone and undermine the authority of the GA. The power of consensus and the General Assembly rests in getting everyone\'s buy-in, and on mutual trust. When those things are undermined, the entire group is undermined. Conversely (and in contrast to how it has often worked, unfortunately) consensus, and by extension the General Assembly, can be a tool for building trust.
