Occupied Solidarity Stand – Monday Oct17th 4pm – JOIN US! /2011/10/17/join-us-monday-1017/ /2011/10/17/join-us-monday-1017/#comments Mon, 17 Oct 2011 17:00:34 +0000 awaz /?p=96 more »]]> A day after the dedication ceremony for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in Washington, DC, Mayor Kasim Reed effectively gave an eviction notice to the Occupy Atlanta Protesters at Troy Davis Park.

Mayor Reed hinted towards backing off his recent “eviction notice.” However, the mere implication that Occupy Atlanta Protesters would need to vacate public property for practicing civil disobedience over our crumbling economy did not fall on deaf ears. The Atlanta-North Georgia Labor Council voted unanimously to mobilize on Monday October 17th, 2011, in support of continuing Occupation. Together, Occupy Atlanta and the Atlanta-North Georgia Labor Council will host an “Occupied Solidarity Stand.”

Our Occupation is an act of civil disobedience. It is very much in line with the history of principled protest which includes Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and is such a rich part of Atlanta’s history. We deeply appreciate the solidarity and support of the Atlanta-North Georgia Labor Council and call on everyone who believes in the right of the people to peaceably assemble and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. Please join your voice to ours.
