Occupy Atlanta supports the Move Your Money Project. Stop supporting large financial concerns and move your money to local institutions who will invest in your local community. For those who have bank accounts, this is a good way to put your money where your ideals are.
Make sure you are aware of any fees or penalties which might be associated with closing your old account. Simply withdrawing all of the money is not enough; you must formally close the account.
Less money in big banks means less money for paying executive bonuses and purchasing lobbyists. It will make “too big to fail”….less big.
Move your money!
The main problem is not large bank vs. local bank or “community” bank. The problem is the way banks are structured, e.g. the profit motive.
Any bank, large or small will happily take YOUR money and use it to enrich their owners/shareholders/CEO.
A Credit Union takes your money and uses it to enrich the member-owners (you).
A local bank may be smaller, but the way the business is structured is no less exploitative.
Don’t be fooled! A bank is a business. If you want community, join a Credit Union!
