As undocumented families we are tired of being forced into the shadows. We need to stand up and fight for our rights.

On Tuesday we’ll be doing just that at the Alabama State Capitol. We urge you to join us at the State Capitol at 2:00pm on Tuesday November 15th.

While all human beings are acknowledged by international law to have certain rights, “rights” in the sense that you’re suggesting flow primarily from law enacted by a citizens of a nation to govern their own affairs. If you “lack proper documentation” — and I hate that expression, because it makes it sound like you misplaced it, which is not the case — you are likely to find that attempting to force the people who have legitimate political power in the country to do as you wish because of your supposed strength will yield outcomes other than the ones you want.
That isn’t to say that there aren’t people in Occupy Atlanta and elsewhere who won’t support your cause. They may. But for every illegal immigrant “tired of being forced into the shadows,” there is at least one citizen who would love to get you out of the shadows, onto a plane, and back to your country of citizenship.
