The People vs. Sheriff Thomas Brown
Occupy Atlanta and community allies organized a rally outside of Sheriff Thomas Brown’s office at 4415 Memorial Drive today. Over 100 people showed up with signs and carrying some of the wreckage that Sheriff Brown and his officers left in Chris Frazer’s lawn less than a week ago. The furniture was placed in front of the entrance to the Sheriff’s department with the idea of bringing the housing crisis right to their doorstep. The Sheriff’s office locked the door and refused to respond to community concerns. Chris Frazer, Carmen Pittman, and Pastor Dexter Johnson all spoke to the crowd outside demanding that Sheriff Brown apologize and let Chris Frazer back in her home. After the demonstration, Dekalb deputies pulled over one of the lead organizers for no reason, threatened anyone who attempted to film the scene, impounded the vehicle, and cuffed an activist that refused to stop recording the officers as they obstructed the law. Later that activist was taken to Grady hospital for injuries and released from custody.
Chris’ house was foreclosed on fraudulently by Investors One Corporation in October 2011, and she currently has a case in federal court disputing the foreclosure. In March, activists with Occupy Atlanta set up camp on her lawn and committed to stay to defend Chris’ home from eviction. That all changed last week when 50 officers stormed her house at 3 AM, and put Chris, her 85 year old mother, and 3 year old grandson out on the street, ignoring the federal court order that was supposed to protect her. No matter how Sheriff Thomas Brown tries to spin it, the actions taken by him and his deputies was just plain wrong. Dekalb County deserves better.
Please call Sheriff Thomas Brown’s office and demand that he let Chris Frazer return to her home.

Dekalb County Sheriff Illegally Evicts Frazer Family From Their Home at 3 AM!!
The scene early this morning at 3662 Wellhaun Road in Decatur resembled that of a major drug bust with officers sneaking around in the middle of the night. Instead of a bust however, officers knockedon the door of 62 year old Christine Frazer’s house at 3 AM to serve her with an eviction notice. Chris’ house was foreclosed onfraudulently by Investors One Corporation in October 2011, and she hasbeen fighting it in federal court ever since. In January,
activists with Occupy Atlanta set up camp on her lawn and committed to stay todefend Chris’ home from eviction.
Using what the sheriff himself referred to as “intelligence” DekalbCounty law enforcement waited until activists were not present at the home, and the neighbors would be asleep to serve an illegal evictionafter hours, putting 4 generations including her 83 year old mother, and 3 year old grandson out on the curb. Authorities instructed them to “act like there was a fire” and to hurry up and get out. They even rounded up her dogsand took them to the pound. To add insult to injury, the police blocked off the street and wouldn’t allow anyone to help secure thefamily’s valuable personal belongings from the side of the road.Once again, it is clear that the government and our law enforcement officials are being used to serve and protect the interest of the 1% and not of ordinary people or even the laws that they have put in
place. Occupy Atlanta is more committed than ever to the fight for Chris Frazer’s home, and the thousands of other homeowners just like her who are being disrespected every day. Sherriff Thomas Brown and the Dekalb County political system showed their true colors today, and made it known where their loyalties lie. Occupy Atlanta and many others in the community are putting Dekalb officials on blast and letting them know that we will not stand for this type of
shady behavior.

There are a lot of unexpected charges adding up now dealing with the eviction. Chris is scrambling to find a place for her family to stay, a storage unit for all of their belongings, and even has to pay to get the dogs out of the pound. Please donate to help in anyway you can.

Occupier Illegally arrested at Dekalb Occupation
Link to video of Dekalb police illegally arresting an Occupier while in the midst of a “routine” patrol of a quiet street on the morning of April 10th, 2012. Make no mistake: The police were here for an eviction but the house was defended and no such eviction took place.

Occupy Atlanta Fights Attempted Eviction at Frazer Home
Today at the home of Christine Frazer, a Dekalb County Marshal entered the property and attempted to find the homeowner, most likely to inform that an eviction would be happening soon afterwords. After being confronted by those of Occupy Atlanta present, the Marshal left the property. Very soon afterwards, Dekalb police began to show up and block off the entrance to the street. At one time seven or eight police cars were visible. Activists of Occupy Atlanta made preparations to defend the home. The media was called twice: Channel 2 (ABC), Channel 5 (Fox), Channel 11 (NBC), and Channel 46 (CBS). They did not send any news crew to the home. Neighbors and activists within Occupy Atlanta were mobilized and began filming the police. The Dekalb police claimed to know nothing of any eviction; they stated they were simply doing a “routine” patrol of the street. One activist stood in the street inside a tent in front of the police. The police gave orders to clear the street to which the occupier complied. The police then arrested him while in the driveway of the Frazer home. This arrest is immoral and illegal.
Occupy Atlanta calls for his immediate release and an apology from the Dekalb Police Department. Occupy Atlanta
also calls upon the Dekalb Sheriff, Marshals, as well as the Dekalb Police Department to immediately publicly state they will not evict the Frazer family who live at the address 3662 Wellhaun Road, Decatur, Georgia. Occupy Atlanta also calls upon Investors One Corporation and their law firm, Shapiro & Swertfeger to quit their pursuit of evicting
the Frazer family and stealing their home and property.
Banks and corporate entities have been stealing from the 99% for too long. Now we are fighting back. Families are fighting back. The time of wholesale theft of homes by the 1% is over.

Occupy & Vine City Residents Take On Bank of America to Fight Foreclosure!
The foreclosure crisis hit Vine City hard. Now, only 15% of residents own their
homes and many of them are facing hardship, like resident Pamela Flores whose
property backs up to Martin Luther King III and City Councilman Michael Julian
Bond’s home.
Pamela bought her home at an inflated amount in 2006, the
height of the crime spree at the hands of American banking institutions. In 2009
she attempted to get a loan modification with Bank of America through the
“Making Homes Affordable” program. The bank told her that in order to qualify
she needed to miss 3-4 mortgage payments; this is a scam that has already put
countless Americans out of their homes. During the time she missed payments, at
the banks request and in order to meet the loan modification criteria, she fell
into foreclosure. By qualifying for the “Making Homes Affordable” program
foreclosure was temporarily avoided. Pamela began to pay trial period monthly
payments for the “Making Homes Affordable” program. When it was time for Bank of
America to grant her the promised modification, they instead mailed her a
notification alleging that she failed to make four out of five payments. Her
home, unknowing to her, was slated for auction at the Fulton County courthouse
during the time the bank claimed to be researching their records for the
“missing” payments. The thing is, Pamela Flores never missed a payment, in fact
she was never even late, and has all the records to prove it.
Pamela was forced to file for Chapter 13 and 7 bankruptcy in order to stop Bank of America from stealing her home. The act of filing has stopped Pamela from being able to recieve a student loan she had formally been approved for in her effort to pursue a
masters degree at Emory University. Her ordeal with Bank of America has forever
impacted the course of her life. The home she paid over $180k for is now
appraised at $38k.
Since she reached out to Occupy Atlanta a few weeks ago, we were able to
work with the Rainbow Push Coalition to put off her home auction for one
month–but that’s not good enough. Occupy Atlanta has begun a full scale occupation of Pamela’s home until Bank of America makes a deal to keep her in it. Occupy Atlanta
will work with her community to establish a base for defending other homes
at risk of foreclosure and eviction. We plan to target private and public
institutions that continue to disrespect Vine City residents.
Occupy Our Homes Atlanta is committed to maintaining a 24/7 presence at the home of Pamela Flores until Bank of America makes a deal that keeps her in home. During our
time here we also plan to work with the Vine City community to create a hub, at
Pamela’s home, for eviction/foreclosure defense. We invite folks from
surrounding communities who are struggling with housing issues to come down to
245 Griffin Street, Atlanta and work with us to build the communties we can
survive and thrive in.

Occupy Atlanta Joins Forces With The Campaign To Stop Killer Coke
Occupy Atlanta is joining forces with the Campaign To Stop Killer Coke to take on one of the world’s largest, most well known, and corrupt corporations, The Coca-Cola Company. Founded and headquartered here in Atlanta, Ga, Coke is the world’s largest beverage company, sold in over 200 countries around the world.
Although Coke spends millions of dollars every year on advertising to market their products with a positive and happy spin, a quick look inside their business practices shows that that like so many corporations, profits take precedence over ethics, morality, and justice.
Coca Cola’s crimes reach all the way across the globe. In Latin America, they have been accused of hiring paramilitary forces to torture, intimidate, and even murder union organizers in countries like Columbia, and Guatemala. They profit off of child labor used in the sugar cane fields of El Salvador. In Mexico, they use their bought off pals in the government to control the market, making competition against Coke virtually non-existent. In a country where almost every citizen has access to Coca Cola products, over 12 million people don’t have access to clean water. Their plants contaminate and dry up the water sources, devastating farmers, towns, and the people that live in them. In China they’ve been known to have deplorable working conditions in their factories, and benefit off of prison labor.
Their crimes are not just international though. Coca Cola Company and its executives are a classic case of the 1% here at home. Coca-Cola sits on the board of ALEC (the American Legislative Exchange Council) that produces legislation designed to limit workers rights, deny climate change, keep private prisons full, restrict access to voting, and many other pro-business, anti-people agendas. They spend millions of dollars lobbying our representatives and agencies to ensure that their products can be sold without regulation. They aggressively market sugary beverages to children that have no nutritional value, and are directly tied to record high rates of obesity and diabetes. They avoid warning consumers of known carcinogens in their products, such as aspartame, BPA, and 4-methylimidazole. Their executives, like CEO Muhtar Kent, receive millions of dollars in compensation each year, while average workers around the world are barely paid a living wage, and any attempts to collectively bargain for rights are quickly abolished. And of course they avoid paying their fair share of taxes with billions of dollars held in off-shore tax havens such as the Cayman Islands.
Coca-Cola also has a long history of racial discrimination, from their support of the apartheid government in South Africa, to countless instances of discrimination here at home. Case after case, workers have complained about the rampant racism that occurs in Coca Cola’s factories, as well as the lack of opportunity for minorities to advance within the company. And although they lack respect for minorities in the workplace, they still aggressively market their harmful products to African Americans and Latinos at higher rates than other groups leading to higher rates of obesity and diabetes. Most recently, through their relationship with ALEC, they have shown their support for the “Stand Your Ground Law” in Florida that is being used as a defense in the murder of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed 17 year old African American boy. Many credit this ALEC legislation as the reason Trayvon’s killer remains free.
It’s time that the cover is blown on this corporation and the people finally see that Coke is NOT IT. Occupy Atlanta and Killer Coke plan to attend Coca-Cola’s annual shareholder’s meeting on April 25, 2012 at Cobb Galleria to confront their executives and shareholders alike about their crimes against humanity.

The Frazer Home: It Comes Down to This (The Here & Now)
Foreclosure: a household grapples with unemployment, illness, or even death. But what about the story regarding a possible eviction? For Christine Frazer and her family this is no longer just a debate. We at Occupy Atlanta have been educating ourselves since October — When we took the park, and November –when we started Home Defense, about how the process works. There’s foreclosure, dispossessory, and then eviction. Eviction is where the threat of muscle is no longer just a threat.
But, that is where Occupy Atlanta comes into play. The variables are, for the most part, the same as they have ever been. The system has the judicial system, law enforcement, and the law itself inexorably moving towards one end: eviction for a family of four. That’s four human beings and four generations. However, there is one variable that is independent. Or perhaps two. Activists that comprise Occupy Atlanta do not shy away from confrontation but instead form a wall of defiance against laws and functionaries of an unjust system. We will be arrested and we will resist. We do not relent. We do not contemplate a timetable or an end date. The second variable is that of the community and the social will in general. The 99% will only suffer in silence for so long. Then they will speak. When they are not heard or responded to, they will act. Christine Frazer has done just that. She is bucking a system. This system believes that it is justifiable, in the eyes of the law then presumably in the eyes of justice, to force an elderly person and a dependent child into homelessness. This is patently wrong. Decent persons will not stand idly by in this situation. The Frazer family is in the end-stage of the system in place; they are facing imminent eviction at the hands of the DeKalb Marshals with the help of a company hired by the entity Investors One Corps. We call on Investors One Corps to work with the Frazer family and give up the property. We call on the Marshal’s office to not force homelessness upon this family. We call on any eviction company who would be willing to forcibly remove the belongings of the Frazer family onto the side of the road to rethink any such proposal; the money is not worth the human cost. And finally, we call upon all Georgians, and especially those native to South Dekalb and Decatur, to support the Frazer family of 3662 Wellhaun road, decatur, georgia. Let’s shame a shameless system into doing what is right and give the Frazer family their home back. Start here: there are a limited number of companies in the greater Atlanta Metro Area who do ”Eviction Services”. They are currently overworked. Let’s let them know that the Frazer’s home at 3663 Wellhaum is off limits!
Occupy Atlanta Fights to Save the Frazer Home!
The state of Georgia ranked fourth in the nation for foreclosures at the end of last year, with more foreclosures expected. Along with many other metro Atlanta counties, DeKalb County and South Decatur have especially been hit hard by the housing bubble and crash. Ms. Christine Frazer, a 62 year old widow, along with four generations of the Frazer family are being threatened with eviction from the place they have called home since 1994. Mrs. Frazer refinanced her home in 2001; but after losing her husband in 2002, taking in her elderly mother in 2003, losing her job in 2009 due to a “no-fault, one-minute-late tardy policy,” and being denied unemployment after two appeals, she was left with no way to pay her mortgage.
The very same crumbling economy that caused the value of Chris’ home to depreciate left her hopeless in today’s damaged job market. Mrs. Frazer’s home was foreclosed on in October of 2011 after faithfully paying her mortgage for over 15 years! Investors One Corporation sent her a statement claiming she had to pay $176,000 on a house that the very same document stated is only worth $40,000. There is no sense in expecting such a large amount of money for a home that has lost so much value. Evicting this family means evicting an 85 year old great-grandmother and her 3 year old great-grandson. Why kick a family to the curb and allow a home to sit unoccupied? It would make much more sense to allow for a new mortgage, based on the current value of the home. This foreclosure is wrongful and Occupy Atlanta will assist Ms. Frazer in the fight to expose the fraudulent actions that have taken place. Many other families and individuals across America have fallen victim to these unlawful practices and Occupy Atlanta is fighting against such injustices. Occupy Atlanta has once again made a foray into the suburbs of Atlanta where so many families have been and are currently struggling to keep themselves afloat.
Occupy Atlanta hopes to not only save the Frazer home, but assist the community at large in helping find solutions to local problems. Too many homes nearby sit bank owned and vacant, or even worse: abandoned and in varying states of disrepair. This brings down the home values of EVERY home in the area and dampens the mood of the community. Let’s make Decatur a focal point for resisting foreclosures and foster a spirit of community that cares for and takes care of one another. We can start by saving the Frazer home. Come and join the fight!
