Proposals (7:43 pm)
Committee-Related
Graham – Has friends who helped instigate Occupy Miami and Occupy Wall Street. Saturday at 8 pm there’s a solidarity rally with communities across Atlanta, and from 11 pm on we want to reoccupy the park.
Concerns about how to train for mass arrests – we will have a seminar and training this week

Concerns about how to inform the community – Outreach is working on that all this week, and could use all available help. PASSES!

Big Softie – move GAs to an earlier time or make an earlier GA to supposedly get more families involved.
Concern that that will not be good for working people, Process committee doesn’t have the staff to do multiple daily GAs, and the earlier time conflicts.
AFTER DELIBERATION, this will not pass now.  But it is reworked so on weekends GA will meet at 3 PM.  PASSES.
Elijah – Suggests the color green to unite us visually, especially when outreaching to communities.
Various concerns about colors and their symbolism already.  Red hats we have already mentioned.  And the lime green that Legal Observers wear.  PASSES.
Martin – Suggests we change the park name from Troy Davis back to Woodruff, because other cities do not all change names, it has divided people here and confuses others. DOES NOT PASS.

Other Business

None.

NEXT GA – 7pm tomorrow at Woodruff park .  We are adjourned.

OccupyAltanta Welcomes GA Latino Alliance For Human Rights

10:30 AM -
Hate Legislation and Hate Policies:
An attack against one is an attack against all!

Hate Legislation historically has been used as means of legitimizing the hindering of certain groups of people by racist and oppressive means. HB87 is not just an attack on the immigrant community, it is an attack on working class people, people of color and any human being that lacks the socio-economical grounds, meaning all of us, the 99%. Learn more about this piece of hate legislation (HB87, HB56, SB20, SB1070) and what all of us as a community can do to repeal HB87.

11:15 AM -
Prison Industrial Complex/CCA
This workshop will outline the influence of private interests on immigration enforcement and detention practices, situating the problem within the larger prison industrial complex. We will identify the main players and their mechanisms for influence, provide some statistical information about the extent of that influence today, and conclude by highlighting some strategies for combating this growing problem.

12:30 PM -
Resistencia en Arte
We will explore what elements are needed to create a good piece of propaganda art. Participants will then be introduced in a hands-on participatory workshop to a few methods for creating their own images and then techniques for reproduction and distribution of materials that can be used in participants’ local campaigns.

Press Release: Mayor Reed Ignores Clergy to Raid OccupyAtlanta

For Immediate Release
Occupy Atlanta Media Committee

Mayor Reed Ignores Clergy to Raid Occupy Atlanta

Today (10/26) Occupy Atlanta will hold a press conference at 11am on the sidewalk of City Hall. After a meeting between Occupy Atlanta and a group of clergy was arranged for Thursday at noon at the mayor’s request, the Atlanta Police Department went ahead with what was apparently a planned raid on Occupy Atlanta Tuesday night. Arrests were made with no resistance, and included Joe Beasley, Derrick Bozeman, and State Sen. Vincent Fort. All of those arrested will go before a judge at 8 am. There will be a march to the jail from the park starting at 7:20am. From the jail we will assemble at the Atlanta Municipal Court. Occupy Atlanta will continue to peacefully protest with an anti-war march today at 5 pm.

Statement:

The evidence shows that despite the fact that Mayor Reed claimed that he was sending clergy to speak with Occupy Atlanta in order to find a “peaceful solution,” the outcome was already predetermined. Representatives from the group of clergy arrived at the park and requested a meeting for 5 pm. That time was not available because of a planned march which was posted in the schedule on Occupy Atlanta’s website. Participants in Occupy Atlanta and the representatives of the group of clergy agreed on a meeting time of Thursday at noon at Big Bethel AME Church. However, Atlanta police did not wait for this meeting to take place.

We reiterate that the mayor has misrepresented our peaceful protest. There was no violence on Saturday as he claimed. The Hip Hop Day festival promoters had a permit which was pulled by the city at the last minute. The mayor has misrepresented both Occupy Atlanta and the facts at every possible turn. Nor did he appear to have the full confidence of the clergy sent to negotiate with us; Rev. Darrell D. Elligan commented “We heard the mayor, but just because we heard the mayor doesn’t mean we believe the mayor.”
