    Salutations dahlin’s

My name is Morgan and I am the new “bottom liner” for Arts & Literature. I would like to discuss a proposal with your committee that we can perhaps work together on. I believe in total transparency so I am going to open discussion in this thread.

    Mission: to unequivocally define VIOLENCE
Why: There has been a lot of debate about what “violence” means among OA members. By adapting a universal definition of violence we can all agree upon what is unacceptable behavior for any and all OA events, protests, and talks.
How: Use a universal source that is easily accessible and is widely accepted.
    Suggested source: http://www.dictionary.com
    Definitions given:
    1. swift and intense force: the violence of a storm.
    2. rough or injurious physical force, action, or treatment: to die by violence.
    3. an unjust or unwarranted exertion of force or power, as against rights or laws: to take over a government by violence.
    4. a violent act or proceeding.
    5. rough or immoderate vehemence, as of feeling or language: the violence of his hatred.
    6. damage through distortion or unwarranted alteration: to do editorial violence to a text.

*notice that these definitions do not limit “violence” as only being violent if done to a living creature. No specific target of violence is given. The English definition of violence applies toward things living and inanimate. So this proposal would define violence in a manner that includes vandalism and destruction of property.

The proposal might carry an addendum under definition #5 that could read as: while profanity is not violent, use of profanity is prohibited by the Occupation guidelines.

Suggestions, comments, peanuts? Please post below so that we might refine this proposal.

By unanimous vote the GA approved use of wiktionary.org as the reference for resolving disputes over word meaning. The actual text of the resolution is in the Process Committee’s forum here on the web site.
