    Hey guys and gals,

I’m Geno from Occupy Jacksonville and I’ve been working pretty much non-stop getting us online.
I used Drupal for our “Official” news cast site at http://occupy-jax.org … I wanted to do the whole community site using Drupal but it was just too much for me to setup and configure with my limited experience with it. So I got in touch with the Devs at nycga and copied their WP/BP code over to http://comeoccupyjax.org

All the customization you guys have done make ours look pretty sad in comparison but I’ve been a solo bird man with all the web stuff.

Right now I’m trying to get all of Florida on the same page and I’m trying to figure out the best way to go about doing that.

I recently purchased http://floridaga.net so I can install a “site” for each city and have the main site covering all of Florida.

I was just curious if you guys were working on something similar or had any information about someone who is?

I also just wanted to reach out and say Hi :D

I look forward to working with you guys at some point.

Thanks for doing everything you do and kudos on the beautiful website!

    Thanks @geno !

If you’re looking for a drupal site i think our IT Infrastructure team may be working on something, but i do not know the details of it just yet… still waiting for a link to check it out.

…and NYCga is working on a Federated General Assembly site, but i think it will be a few months before that is ready. the wiki for it is http://occupy-dev.org/wiki/Federated_General_Assembly_(FGA)_System

This is as I’m sure you know is WP+BP site. we’re doing our best with a team of three peeps :) We have a great PHP guy and i do most of the css (and whatever else i can figure out) and then the others pitch in when they can.

There’s still some kinks we’re finishing up on this site and then we could definitely make it so it could be installed for other occupations if that’s more what you had in mind? wasn’t sure if you were wanting a site like ours or a drupal site.

You can follow our github at http://goo.gl/Kd2AU for progress on this one. Always something new to add or work out it seems, but we’re almost there.

How are you doing on your server hosting? we’ve been having some server load time issues… and before we share the code I’d like to make sure we have that worked out.

If you have any questions or need help with anything we’ll do our best to help out. I’d love to have a site dedicated to working with WP+BP like a ticketing system maybe. A wiki is good but a error ticketing system like this http://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/wiki would be great!!

I was aware of the Federated GA project but I couldn’t remember the name of the project or the link. Thanks for the heads up!

I was really hoping to build a site where we could have a State-Level workgroup system as the main BP install and then have it to where you can install the sub-sites as the different cities/towns. These cities and towns would also be able to have their own workgroups, just as our existing sites do.

I’ve posted a thread on the buddy press forums asking for help and got a pretty good response. http://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/statewide-occupy-movement-install-need-multiple-bp-subsites/

Not quite what I had in mind but we might be able to make it work.

I’d be interested in helping on the drupal project as I know it’s way more powerful than WP/BP. I haven’t fully decided on which system to use. I’d like to get both systems online so that people can vote on which they like better so it’s not like I’m dictating what we use.

For hosting we’ve been using http://MediaTemple.net grid service. I found a coupon online that brought the monthly fee down to $16 per month. They charge by the CPU cycles though so once we get bigger, it will definitely start getting too expensive to keep. I was considering upgrading to the virtual dedicated server service for the statewide community site but I just found a possible free alternative.

One of the guys from nycga chat gave me this link – https://mayfirst.org/lowdown/action/mfpl-offering-free-hosting-occupy-movement-organizations

To get started, just fill out this form and explain you’re from Occupy and they’ll hook you up.

    https://mayfirst.org/join-may-firstpeople-link

I just signed up last night and got my confirmation while I was writing this. Tell ‘em Geno sent ya if you’d like. I informed them that I was building a statewide portal and they are pretty stoked about it too.

Just a side note to the hosting, I got an invoice with the setup notice emails that says I owe $200 dues for the year. I’m not sure if that fee is waived or not but I’ll find out and report back. I’ll also report back on how well the system performs.

As far as project management goes, I’ve been using (obviously not very much) http://underthehood.occupy-jax.org It’s free as long as your project is public. I’m not sure if there is an API for it or not. It would be cool to integrate that within WP/BP somehow. The guys over at #NYCGA-TECHOPS on Freenode can give you some other resources they use.

I’ll keep ya posted on any progress I make. Feel free to add me on Facebook. https://facebook.com/GenoGod

Have a good one and keep in touch!

Yeah, what they told you on Buddypress is correct, you can have sub-groups. We had them at one point, but i unintalled it since the only committee that had sub groups was Media. wasn’t really necessary. It’s just a plugin.

a state wide site would be cool… and Drupal may be good for that, i’m not sure yet. As soon as our IT Infrastructure peeps finish the site i’m excited to take a look and see if it’s going to be better for us. I know they are also trying to get a Diaspora pod set up for Atlanta too.

Lots of stuff in the works, but the real key is how do we make it all work together in an organized way? OpenID solves the login issues, but there’s going to be more to it than that… it will need to all be integrated on one site seamlessly so it doesn’t appear to be so many different things. Too many different things will get confusing and we’re already having trouble getting people to use this one site lol.

We’re using Mayfirst right now also :) no charge. check your http://underthehood.occupyjax.org domain, i tried it and it returns a 404 There is one really good CRM for Buddypress but it’s not compatible with the current version. That’s another thing i think they were trying to achieve on the Drupal site.

I’d add you to FB but i don’t do FB much :) i’m on g+ for social networking and here lol 24/7. email us website@occupyatlanta.org too.

I updated the link to the project management. It’s pretty nifty.

Nyc’s is at http://underthehood.nycga.net so you can see what a fully populated one looks like.

    Hope this helps! <3

    woah.. that’s crazy! :)

we started on GitHub this week which works fine for just us. everything we do has to be free. i think something like https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/report would work out well for a nationwide system they have it set to categorize everything really well. and it’s free! http://trac.edgewall.org/

im definitely going to use this as a searching tool to see if they’ve already fix some of the errors we’re working on.

I’d check the Post Order plugin if you’ve got it installed… I was wondering about that.

On the nycga project tracker, make sure to click the Done button to see what’s been finished already as well. It doesn’t show up by default.
