I didn’t want this to get lost on Facebook. Someone should reach out to him if there’s interest.

Keith Mercer i’m sure this post will get lost in the frenzy that is OA on FB but i’m serious if people are interested in Security Culture and Direct Action i’m willing to teach what i know. so if you’re interested just send me a message on FB.

    • if anyone would like i can put together a workshop on Security Culture and Direct Action and would be happy to. the FB page has had calls for DA and some serious breaches in SC and since i’ve noticed there are many newer activists involved its good to be more prepared.

if you’re interested you can find me here as Igatranonic or on FB as Keith Mercer

People are talking about organizing a freeway shutdown. Having a few dozen cars stop at the same time on all three major freeways should cause a pretty big stir. Especially if we had people get out and hand out flyers and hang posters or banners on the freeway walls/overpasses (and the stop was under the overpass). Thoughts on how we could…[Read more]

    • Wesley Morris (facebook) One friendly amendment: We need to make sure to keep the side lane clear for emergency vehicles.

    • There has been a suggestion to do this next Saturday, when GA Tech has their game.

    • So, I’m thinking that a Saturday would work well (logistically), but news attention would be better on a weekday. I’m thinking Wednesday during morning rush hour. Say like 8:00 am at all connectors from 285 to 75/85 into Atlanta (we should only stop traffic inbound to Atlanta). This would focus the message on the money flowing into the hands of…[Read more]

    • Okay, so you know what IS coming up? 11-11-11. And it’s coming up really soon, but I’m picturing something really kickass. I propose that we shut down traffic completely, either in one location or (ideally) at all major interchanges around the perimeter and maybe even a few strategic spots intown, for a full hour, starting at 10:41 am. So…[Read more]

      • We should do something for veterans on veterans day. Let’s leave that day alone for some sort of solemn march to remember the fallen and ignored veterans made homeless by our system.

      • Having said that, if we make it far enough out, we can contact other occupations, and make this a national event. I think the day before thanksgiving is perfect.

    • I think we can consider whether we will have enough manpower to shutdown all the interchanges. I think we should start with shutting down the connector here: http://maps.google.com/?ll=33.741616,-84.391882&spn=0.001929,0.002929&t=k&vpsrc=6&z=19

People can walk out onto Fulton Street to hang banners for both north and south bound traffic. We’d…[Read more]

      • This could also totally work, but would obviously cause the whole thing to exist on a much smaller scale. For better and worse.

    • One thing that just occured to me: If people are driving down the road and the cars in front of them suddenly stop and a bunch of people wearing masks jump out, who knows what they are going to think. This is Atlanta and a lot of people carry guns in their cars. If they think that we are terrorists or something they might shoot first and ask…[Read more]

      • I wouldn’t suggest wearing masks, and I think the banners flapping and flyers they’re handing out would explain the situation pretty well. A megaphone or two would help too. Pirated radio would be great too (what’s it take to hijack frequencies, anyone know that kind of stuff?).

      • also, traffic cones and orange safety vests would help keep us safe – both things are available at hardware stores and are pretty cheap.

    • Hey sunflame, I am not sure if this is what you meant by your facebook page but here basically what I was talking about doing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OoETMCosULQ&feature=fvsr One group does this and actually obeys the law but starts on the 1/4 side of the loop. Meanwhile another group, hangs up the signs in preperation.

      Thus you can…[Read more]

    • In hindsight, it might not be as epic as stopic traffic though.

      • The progression of that dawning on you was awesome from my point of view. Yes, this would be pretty epic. A small group of people having a such an enormous impact. I wonder how much money the 1% loses when business doesn’t get done.

    • Something I finally figured out how to say on Facebook. Repeating it here as it’s directly related.

To put it clearly, the freeway is no more or less a public right of way than the sidewalk (just for a different type of travel). I’m willing to assert my right to impede that right of way briefly for political speech. That falls under civil…[Read more]

    • This is an unproductive endeavor. While, yes, it will get people’s attention, it reflects poorly on Occupy. What is the point of stopping traffic? You will only make people angry with us.

      I strongly discourage this activity.

    • I don’t understand how such a show of power will engender support for the movement. It’s 100% reckless and even more unsafe.
