Restorative Circles Training
Sunday, January 29, 2012
2:00 PM - 5:00 PM
We all have something to contribute to Occupy.
When we all contribute that something harmoniously we all benefit, but internal conflicts can hamper our contributions and sap our strength. This training brings us tools we can use to resolve our internal conflicts so we can all contribute our best and gain strength in unity.
Have you experienced anything that felt harmful?
This is the training for you!
Occupy!
==============
Restorative Circles provide community members a safe space in which to address conflict and differences. Through use of trained facilitators and operation according to a proven script and agreed-to community guidelines, community participants can experience opportunity to be heard regarding their experiences, before strategies or agreements for repair or resolution are formed.
During this “Taste of Restorative Circles” we will first have the opportunity to understand the foundational script and principles of a Circle. Then the group will move into a demonstration Circle in which a participant will bring “something that was said or done that he or she experienced as harm” to a Circle. Other participants will sit in the roles of all those who were a part of the identified “experience of harm”. Sharing among the group will follow the Restorative Circle script until either an Action Plan for restoration is created or the group decides on some other outcome. Following the Circle, all present who care to will share impressions of its impact.
We can then subsequently decide if this circle process might be the most valuable strategy for addressing conflict in the Occupy Atlanta community. If so, plans for the necessary program set up can be made. Then training can be scheduled so that Restorative Circles can be facilitated by trained facilitators from within the Occupy community.
