The People Standing Up Against Georgia Power! Georgia Public Service Commission, Atlanta Georgia ![]() There is a frightful precedent being set — one where companies like Georgia Power ask for public financing of their projects. Recently in 2011, in order to build two new nuclear reactors at their Vogtle Plant, Georgia Power has tacked on $1.6 billion to prepay for this operation — not only to prepay for costs, but to prepay EARNINGS on the unbuilt plant! On March 15th, the Public Service Commission — a group which is supposed to work on behalf of the public to get low cost utilities — will recommend another massive payout to Georgia Power — supposedly around $42 million for lost earnings due to taking plants offline early! We ask people to come out to the hearing at 244 Washington St #122, find out what the Public Service Commission is REALLY doing, so that we may put a stop to it! Georgia Power has a very powerful lobby here in Georgia, and they fight hard. Because of it, they have time and again gotten away with “imprudent conduct,” and asking the public to pay for costs that were “illegal or clearly imprudent conduct on the part of [Georgia Power]. We have to fight back with public awareness and participation. More information coming soon! Look for a write-up on www.occupyatlanta.org! |
