IT Infrastructure Minutes

2011-11-12 1pm

Peachtree & Pine

In attendance:

Alex, Avery, Kelvin, Kirsa, Ronald, Ryan

Freedom Tower

-Kelvin will determine if we can site this at 55 Marietta

-We need an itemized list of materials to talk to finance about this. Alex and Ryan to determine what equipment can be scrounged to lower the cost.

-We have plentiful WRT54G routers for client nodes

Website

-We need a backup site, we need the test site to work first. At this point WordPress appears to be impossible to easily migrate.

CONSENSUS – Proposal to set up additional test environments for Joomla and Drupal and compare features between them and existing WordPress solution during a joint meeting with Web and Infrastructure.

-Kirsa will get the base Joomla and Drupal installs on the test server

-Alex will get Joomla set up

-Ryan will get Drupal set up

CRM

-Buddypress is a social networking tool, it is not a CRM platform

-CiviCRM is supposedly either in use or in process of being used at OWS. We do not have the resources to demo CiviCRM due to the insane level of time it would take to configure it, but we could ask OWS if we can demo their instance. Ryan will reach out to his contacts at OWS.

-eGroupware is already set up and being beta tested by C7 and others, integration with Joomla and Drupal is possible with eGroupware.

-Migration from eGroupware to CiviCRM is a straightforward migration.

Social Infrastructure

-Alex will set up a Diaspora node before next week

-Alex will demo facebook/social media integration with Joomla

-Ryan will demo facebook/social media integration with egroupware

Bottomliners

-We need at least one more bottomliner.

-Avery “We are required to have a bottomliner and an alternate, I don’t really want to be bottomliner at all.”

-Avery is the most qualified bottomliner currently CONSENSUS

-Alex and Ryan willing to be alternate bottomliner

CONSENSUS – Alex to be alternate bottomliner

Email Server

Kirsa “If we move all email to Mike Bowden’s server and it goes down, not only will we lose the website but we will lose all email communication. We need a reliable server somewhere with UPS and a stable connection.”

Ryan “We should bring it up at the GA if the Occupy Atlanta community wants us to prioritize privacy and security. Do you want us to create a suggested usage plan for a secure end to end communication system.”

-First step is to provide our own Email and get people off of Google groups.

-Ryan may be able to get OATL Email with the Swedish Pirate Party.

CONSENSUS – Use Mike’s server for Email temporarily and migrate to Swedish Pirate Party Email server if they consent.

Jabber

-Jabber is already set up Mike Trausch

-Federated? YES

-Cluster? NO, we can think about clustering at a later date

-Avery to contact Mike Trausch on the Jabber server

Legal encrypted document store

Legal needs and encrypted document store RIGHT NOW because they are about to implement their own “solution” using dropbox and a sketchy windows proprietary encryption program.

-Webdav + SSL will be the fastest solution

CONSENSUS – Avery will set up a Webdav server on an encrypted server asap for Legal

Teleconferencing

CONSENSUS – We are all OK with teleconferencing our meetings, but we will try for in-person meetings.

Tabled for next meeting

Telephony

Internet access for HQ2

Internet access for site

Security discussion
