IT Meeting Mintues – 10-29-11

IT Meeting Mintues – 10-29-11
Location: Peachtree and Pine

Atendence: Josh, Shana, Billy, Jimmy, Avery, Kirsa

Test Server – Avery will work on setting up a test server and we will use MayFirst as a backup server now.

Phone Lines – Avery will work on this project and get with Press to see if this is something that will be beneficial.

Consensus to have a set time for in person Meetings every Saturday at 5pm.

Moderating IRC Channel #occupyAtlanta – Kirsa will work on Moderating IRC Channels. Consensus to Kick any SPAM and Personal Attacks

DNS – DNS will be put in one persons name for security reasons and there was a consensus on who’s name to put that in during the meeting. This will be implemented asap.

BuddyPress – what it does currently all integrated on our website:
Event Management – custom locations with google maps, recurrent events, categories, and ability to assign events to Groups.
Group Hierarchy, meaning there are sub-groups
Group Home Page with description and contact info
Group Announcements, serves as a group blog also.
Group Forum with Voting and file attachments
Custom Profile Info – why you’re here, what you want to help with, etc.
Personal Announcements
@tagging and #hashtags
Automatic Video embedding – like YouTube, Flickr, Hulu and more
Personal Photo Album
Flag as Inappropriate for all posts
All updates featured on main page.
All updates easily filtered by group, post type, etc on the Activity page.

BuddyPress Improvements:
- Forum Format – (assigned To Billy and Shana) The Title column needs to be longer than the others for better readability.
- Reply by EMAIL and TEXT notifications – (Assigned to Jimmy) currently usinghttp://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-group-email-subscription/ which provides notifications, and needs to be edited to provide the ability to reply by email and send Text notifications or another plugin needs to be added. IMMEDIATE add in better notifications and links to the current emails it sends. (ex. excerpt of the post that was replied to, etc)
- Task Management – (Assigned to Jimmy)
BP GTM System: This is the best system available, but it is not compatible with the latest version of Buddypress http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-gtm-system/
CollabPress: This system works okay, but it does not assign tasks to groups –http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/collabpress/
- Voting System – Add voting to all posts, not just the Forum. (not a priority) The Rating-Widget Plugin does everything, however it also creates some kind of back door to the website and slows the site down as well. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/rating-widget/ http://rating-widget.com/ Admins of the site can vote more than once on the Forums. That needs to be fixed.
- Docs – (Assigned to Jimmy) BuddyPress Docs Plugin. The Problem: All docs are visible on every Group Doc Page. It needs to show only the Associated Group Docs on their Group Doc Page. When this is fixed it will be used for Minutes. Another issue is it you cannot edit the docs via Mobile because it uses a js visual editor, maybe we can turn that off.
- Mobile Version – (Assigned to Billy and Shana) there is a plugin that allows for a Mobile version for the entire Site, but it needs to be formatted properly before using it and I am not sure what kind of Buddypress integration it has.

Website Improvements:
- How To’s Page – (Assigned to Josh) a Q&A How To list with ScreenShots and ScreenCast Video’s

- GA Minutes Multisite add on – (Assigned to Roman) All minutes need to be copied here, and the “Meeting Minutes” tab should be linked here.
- Create sub-domain created for each Committee group – (Assigned to Shana) and have it point to their Group Page and posted on their Group Description. (ex media.occupyatlanta.org, it.occupyatlanta.org, etc)
- RSS Activity Feed on the Home Page – (Assigned to Billy and Shana) Better formatting, it looks awful.
- Display “TODAY” on calendar when today’s date is displayed – (Assigned to Billy) NYCga.cc does this somehow. Needs to be both the sidebar and the Events Page
- External Photo display from Flicker Links (Assigned to Jimmy) just like the one with Video. (should work like g+ and FB where you just post the url to the link and the image shows up) The video plugin being used now is oEmbed for BuddyPresshttp://buddypress.org/groups/oembed-for-buddypress It maybe possible to edit this plugin to show photo’s as well.
- Add Guidelines for submitting IT Proposals online similar to NYCga.cc – (Assigned to the Group to discuss together) http://internet.nycga.net/volunteer/solution-proposal-advice/
- SMS Alerts – (Assigned to Whoever is Managing the SMS system now?) The SMS: TXT occupyatl to 443322 should be for operated by Process and Action Committee or one should be created just for them.. NYCga.cc quote “Scan the QR Code below with your phone or text message “@occupyalert” to 23559 to sign up for text message alerts from the Direct Action Group to be alerted to join us in the park should another eviction or other emergency be eminent.”
- Consensus to Add two Posts as headlines for MainPage (assigned to Shana and already done.) Also Billy will work on improving the overall site layout, button formatting, etc
- Request to Add more accessible Register Button – Shana added both login/register buttons at the top of the sidebar, but only visible to Anonymous users aka those not already logged in.
