Legal Committee Meeting Minutes – January 8, 2012
1) Trip/Megan attended for discussion of actions
2) Liliana, Oliver, Shayna, Kareem (Lauren’s boyfriend), Lauren, Daniel H., Juliana, Lisa, Esme, Brandon
3) Bottom liners
- Who – Brandon, Shayna, Lauren (jail support only) are interested
i. Friendly amendment – Oliver also a jail support bottom liner
ii. Brandon also interested in helping out with jail support
iii. Consensus on these four people, Brandon/Shayna general legal BL; Lauren/Oliver jail support BL
2. Role/responsibility
i. General legal – admin, organization, communication
ii. Jail support – communicating what is needed for an action
iii. Finances
- Juliana and Shayna have the WePay account info
- Cash funds are in the jail support folder; only legal committee folks should have the folder
4) Who/what do we support
- Previously adopted approach: “Limit legal and jail support to events/activities organized by Occupy Atlanta or a committee.”
i. Concern that the way this is currently phrased, Copper and the bikers would not be covered.
ii. Consensus that needs to be changed
2. Concerns/thoughts (brief summary)
i. Language we not adopt overly broad or overly narrow language.
ii. Several people mentioned that so far legal has done a good job making decisions on what to offer support on and what not to.
3. Language for a new proposal was discussed but not adopted. Consensus to continue discussions on the listserve and discuss further at the next meeting.
5) Upcoming actions
1. Lauren will handle jail support for January 9th
2. Discussed February 12th action (notes redacted from website at request of Action Committee)
