Media Meeting Minutes 12-27-11
Location: Peachtree and Pine, 4th Floor
Attendance:  Sara, Shana, Billy, Roger, James, Scott, Ladie conferenced in but lost signal

Accessibility for OccupyAtlanta: Katie from Occupy Wall Street was in attendence at the beginning of our meeting, but had to leave early to head back to NYC.  
Sara stated it has been suggested that OA be more accessible and asked Katie what OWS was doing for Accessibility.  Katie said they did have Sign Language translators at their GA’s at one time, but they are no longer there.  Sara – they say we need more than sign language for those who can’t see the signers.  Katie then described something OWS has been doing that has worked well for their occupation and group – “See a Problem, Fix a Problem.”  This means if you see a problem and make a suggestion to fix it, then you should bottomline that project.  You, as the person who knows issue, are best quipped to handle the project.

Post on Website “Demand Justice for Ariston Waiters!
Sara – There is a line in this Post that states “Occupy Atlanta Demands Retribution for Recent String of State Murders”  This needs to be changed to something less volatile.  Suggestion is “Occupy Atlanta Demands Justice for Recent String of State Murders”
Discussion:  Total consensus. Sara will contact Shab via phone  to have the wording changed.  Plan of Action for future Posts or Events that arise such as this one will be to contact the poster and ask if the wording can be altered to something more appropriate.  In this case since the Action is tomorrow if Shab doesn’t respond within a few hours the wording will be changed.

Process for Posting on the Website:  Sara – we need to discuss a process for posting on the website.  Maybe Media should post all events and main page posts.  Shana – We have a process for that – described the current Process for access to post on the website for the group.   Initially, all bottomliners of groups or their designated person will be given access to add events which also gives them access to post on the main page.  So far, this has worked and we haven’t had any issues. If we as Media see something that needs to be altered, let’s just contact the person or group that posted it with a suggested changed.  I’m sure it would be welcomed from people if Media posted everything for them, but we don’t have enough people for that.  Sara – agreed, that would be more work for Media.

Social Media:  Billy mentioned users now have the ability to sign into the website via FB and Twitter.  James – discussed the importance of posting things like Events on the website first, then sharing them to our social networks as opposed to creating a FB event to promote more use of the Website.  All agreed.  Shana – I am in total agreement and we are currently trying to get the Social Media People to a Meeting together to discuss these things, but it’s not really working out that well.  I really have no solutions.  James – suggested meeting online via video web chat as an option.  Sara –  We should move on because this has been discussed multiple times.  All Agreed.

Press Release for Tomorrows Action:  Sara and Ladie – A press release needs to be written for tomorrows action.  We need a volunteer.  Billy accepts.  Billy will write a short what,when,where, write up and sent it to Sara tonight for Immediate Release.

Peachtree and Pine write up for the website:  Roger submitted a full write up on P&P to explain the current situation.  Sara will shorten it up and send it to Shana to be placed on the Learn More about our HQ page.
