Media Minutes 18Dec11

Media Minutes  18Dec11 – Troy Davis Park at 3pm

Attendees: Cory, Sara, Shana, Shyana, Steven, Caylin, Ladie, Morgan

Media would like to welcome Cory who came because we posted minutes from last week!

Old Business

1.  Facebook Group – transition to OA website forums will be completed by 18Jan12.

  • Remove unknown Administrators prior to announcement to avoid undermining by internet trolls.  Discussed having a meeting for all current Administrators so that it can be better determined who is an active OA member.
  • Write up FB Group notification message announcing transition (Sara and Shana)
  • The group will not be deleted but will become inactive.  By not deleting the group we eliminate the risk of the group being reanimated
  • Short “Occupy the Website” online youtube commercial to promote and announce the transition and benefits of moving from the FB Group to the OA website.
  • “Occupy the Website” poster was ruined at PNP by an unknown individual who glued a piece of paper to the sign (paraphrasing) “with what working computer”.  We need to foster positive vibes and seek solutions to problems rather than damaging other individual’s works.
    • Solutions include: using a library computer and/or finding a way to bolt down the existing OA desktop computer so that it is more accessible.
    • Encourage using the Proposal Folder as a way to voice suggestions, complaints, or wants.

2.  Occupy Atlanta is now active on Google+.  We are only allowed one administrator.  Our current administer is Shana.

3.  “Occupy the Manger” (silent “street theatre” drama with choir) has been canceled due to a lack of participants.

4.  Bloggers – Tumbler access has been passed along.

  • Twitter Accounts can be linked to blogs and to 10 additional accounts to share the blogs.  Cory has experience with this.  Currently interested bloggers are encouraged to get a Twitter account if they do not already have one.

New Business

1.  Live Stream:  needs people with their own equipment who are willing to participate in filming.  Small lap tops with an equipped camera are ideal for this project.  Live Stream needs more people in order to keep it fresh.

  • Equipment Donations are also encouraged (with the knowledge that it is a donation because equipment may get lost or stolen).   All donated equipment for Live Stream use will only be accessible by active media members.

2.  Glen Iris Foreclosure: earliest eviction date is 05Jan12.  Need to canvas neighborhood for support, get video of events and/or live stream, make press calls, and develop promotional material.

3.  Manuel’s Tavern “Legal Fund-raiser” Variety Show (29Dec11) – show starts at 8pm and runs all night.  Raffle tickets available for prizes.  Shana is working on a way to make them available for purchase online.  Outreach has been given tickets to sell.

  • Contact: news, local magazines, and radio for event promotion

4.  NAACP and OA Rally (09Jan12) – OA will stand in solidarity with NAACP in standing up against the Death Penalty.

  • NAACP will be launching a website to promote this event and would like Media and OA participants to come to the website and write statements.

5.  Suggestion to schedule a “special” meeting for all Media members with the purpose of assess who the current active members are and to get everyone connected.

6.  Info Graphics – Cory suggested utilizing this tool, is familiar with its workings, and will develop some examples with Shana.

7.  Stencils Available – Steven has offered to make stencils for anyone who needs them, for anything that is needed.
