Official OA Social Media Oath and Update 12-19-11

Yesterday there was an Official OA Social Media Meeting at 1pm to discuss strategy and how we will work together across all social media platforms to effectively spread the word for OccupyAtlanta. No one was able to attend this meeting and so a short conference call between Tim, Shab and Shana was held followed by a discussion of Social Media plans in the Media Meeting at 3pm.

There will be an Official OA Social Media Oath to keep us accountable for what we are saying on behalf of the entire occupation. Anyone operating any Official OA Social Media account will be asked to sign this oath and those who don’t will be removed as an Admin from the Facebook Page.

The Media Committee has come to a consensus at not one, but several meetings to transition from the FB Group to the FB Page as well as the website for discussions and sharing. We believe these two platforms will provide a more positive experience for communications within our movement. Press will help craft a notice to be posted ASAP in the FB group announcing this move along with the group closing date of January 18th.

This announcement was made and the oath was read at the Bottomliners meeting last night with many twinkles from the group ;)  If you know of anyone that is a current Admin on FB or that currently Tweets under the OWSAtlanta twitter account please respond with their name and contact info ASAP so they will be given the opportunity to sign the oath.

The oath is as follows:

I swear to fulfill, to the best of my ability and judgment, this covenant:

I will always respect the seriousness of my position within OccupyAtlanta and never take lightly the mic that I hold for this occupation.
I will abide by the Atlanta General Assembly Guidelines in each post and response I make on behalf of OccupyAtlanta.

I will not be afraid to ask my fellow OA Social Media comrades and/or other OccupyAtlanta members if this is relevant, accurate, or appropriate before I share it to the world as such. When in doubt ask!

I will promote the movement whenever I can and coordinate with other OccupyAtlanta Social Media platforms including the website because we’re all on the same team.

I will remember that I remain a member of OccupyAtlanta with special obligations to all my fellow occupiers and will never promote my personal opinion or agenda while using an OccupyAtlanta account.

I will be creative in my posts, provide a positive uplifting voice, and inspire others with my words, links, videos, and photos.

If I do not violate this oath, may I enjoy life and art, respected while I live and remembered with affection thereafter. May I always act so as to preserve the finest traditions of my calling and may I long experience the joy of inspiring those who seek change. Power To The People! Occupy the World!

Other Important Notes (other strategy items can be discussed later):

  • Website to Twitter to Facebook to Twitter – currently all linked, be mindful of this to avoid double posting.
  • YouTube is also linked to Twitter which will now send to FB as well.
  • Might be good to unlink Youtube if we are are going to repost the same links to the Website, FB, and Twitter to avoid frequent double posting.
  • On Facebook make sure the first line is informative like a subject line because it also goes to Twitter
  • Add a short descriptive tag line to all links so the make sense on all platforms.
  • If you notice anything odd going on with duplicate posts be sure and point those out specifically so we can figure out the cause. Sharing photos from FB without a description might be doing this. Instead, try adding short description before sharing to the page.
